Youths have been challenged to embrace online jobs to earn a living and improve their welfare in the larger economic growth.
Undoubtedly, in the region, Kenya towers above the rest in internet connectivity, boasting six submarine cables that start in Mombasa with a robust plan to install 100,000km of high-speed fiber optic infrastructure, but more needs to be done, especially in hard-to-reach areas.
The government has an elaborate plan to reinvigorate the digital economy as espoused in the Kenya National Digital Master Plan 2022-2032.
It includes the establishment of 25,000 internet hotspots across the country to provide internet services to innovators, youth, and entrepreneurs.
Buoyed by the government’s support of the digital economy, a multi-national company-DDB has launched an online application promotion platform incorporating in-depth cooperation with major global information sharing platforms like YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook.
The company provides brand formation and advertising media engagement services to local and global clients.
DDB Kenya Manager Philip Righa says their goal is to help companies increase application downloads, exposure and ratings, thereby attracting more users.
Righa asserted that the platform would enable Kenyans to earn money through online jobs.
“This will really help alleviate poverty in our communities. All you need is a smartphone, a network connection, and 20 minutes of your time. Enrolling in DDB will assist you in getting some coins by just doing online tasks,” he stated.
He explained that the online tasks are the normal day-to-day applications that people use in their gadgets and computers.
The completion of the task would have advertised it to reach more people worldwide who will use the application in their daily lives.
“When these people use the applications to run their day-to-day lives, the applications will receive some earnings. The applications will, in turn, pay DDB, who will pay the employees who have registered with them to work online,” elucidated the DDB Manager.
The government was urged to ensure that internet networks are available everywhere in the country as some areas still have poor networks thus locking out the youths from online opportunities.
“We would like the government to ensure 4G and 5G networks reach all parts of the country for citizens to enroll in DDB and start working online to earn some few shillings,” appealed Righa.
He was speaking in Mombasa during the opening of the company’s second office in the country after the first one in Nairobi. The office located at the Buxton Point Apartments is poised to support team development, improve task completion efficiency and provide employment opportunities for more people.
For his part, Zephrine Rigah encouraged full-time employees to do online jobs to complement their monthly income. “It’s good if you get that chance; utilize it and invite your friends to join the platform,” he said.
He urged the youths to seize the opportunity as white collar jobs are scarce and require experience, which lock them out.
He advised the youths that online jobs are their stepping stone since when they start to work online more opportunities will be in the offing.
“It will help you and your friends so that you don’t just sit idle in your house waiting to be given some money by your parents or relatives. When you earn your own money, it becomes sweeter because you can spend it the way you want,” said Riga.
