Youth urged to use Social media wisely

Kajiado East Member of Parliament Kakuta Maimai has urged the youth to make better use of social media and refrain from abusing leaders and giving out misleading information on the platform.

Speaking in a public forum over the weekend, the legislator noted that of late, most youths are now using the various social media platforms to hurl insults at leaders which should not be the case.

He advised the youth to use the various social media platforms to build themselves rather than attacking leaders.

“Use social media wisely and profitably; it is a powerful tool that can open doors in business, education and personal growth. Don’t waste it on insults and petty politics. Refuse to be misused by selfish politicians to attack leaders. Be responsible, respectful and act like the learned individuals you are,” he said.

The legislator urged the youth to focus on positive engagement and communication as there is a lot of positivity in the world.

“If all you can focus on is the negatives then your whole life will be negative. We cannot move forward as a country if we have a young generation so focused on negativity and there is a lot of positivity to look forward to,” he emphasized.

On Friday last week, a Kwale teacher impersonating President William Ruto with ‘I Must Go’ X account was released on a One million shillings’ bond.

Mr. Titus Wekesa Sifuna is accused of publishing a photograph of President Ruto on his X account and allegedly posted derogatory content about the president and his family.

Milimani Law Courts Senior Principal Magistrate, Geoffrey Onsarigo, noted that Sifuna had impersonated the president and published a statement declaring ‘Must Go’ using the username ‘I Must Go.’
