Youth urged to embrace Agribusiness

Youth in Busia County have been urged to embrace Agribusiness as a way of improving their livelihoods.

Speaking during a sensitisation forum for Busia County leadership at a hotel in Busia town, the CEC Member for Agriculture, Dr Moses Osia, said most of the youth in the County are rushing to boda boda riding to earn their living.

“You should not sell parcels of land in exchange for a motorcycle,” he said, explaining that the younger generation can purchase more motorcycles from the proceeds of agri business.

Osia stated that the County Government has engaged around 700 youth within the fisheries sector adding that a number of youth have also been given traditional vegetable seeds for planting.

He expressed the County’s readiness to work closely with the National Government to ensure the success of the rebranded 4-k clubs in learning institutions.

Busia County Commissioner, John Korir, hailed President Uhuru Kenyatta for the revival of the 4 k clubs in learning institutions.

“If we impart knowledge to children at an early age, then we will be able to have responsible citizens who are able to protect the environment,” he said.

Gladys Malonzi, an officer from the Education office in Nairobi, sensitised the County leaders on the decision by President Uhuru Kenyatta to revive the 4 K clubs in schools.

A County Coordination Committee has already been formed to plan for the various schools and activities to be carried out.
