A youth leader in Kitui County was on Tuesday arraigned in court and charged with illegal possession of a firearm and threatening to kill a local MCA.
Augustus Munyalo alias Mose appeared before the Kitui Resident Magistrate, Maureen Kimani on Tuesday where he was accused of being in possession of Zigana M.16 rifle in circumstances which raised reasonable presumption that he intended to use it in a manner prejudicial to public order at the Kitui County Textile Centre on April 11, 2020.
Munyalo, who is the Chairman of a youth outfit dubbed Kitui County Youth Movement, was charged alongside Mulwa Mutua, a military officer who also faced a second joint count of intending to commit robbery with violence while armed with the military grade firearm at the said place and date.
The duo, who are represented by lawyer Morris Kimuli, denied the charges and were each granted a bond of Sh.120, 000 plus a surety of a similar amount pending mention of the case on July 6.
Munyalo was later arraigned before the Kitui Chief Magistrate, Stephen Mbungi and charged with issuing death threats to Kanziko member of Kitui County Assembly, James Mutunga Munuve.
The court heard that he committed the offence at Total mini shop in Kitui town on June 16 this year.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted a Sh.200, 000 bond plus one surety or Sh.100, 000 cash bail. The case will be mentioned on July 8.
