Youth in Kiambu County have been advised to apply for Uwezo funds to enable them recover from effects of Covid-19.
The Director of Youth in Kiambu County Ms. Jacinta Migwi said it was time for the youth to place their applications for consideration so that they could be considered in the economic recovery which saw the President recently unveil an 8 point economic programme.
Ms. Migwi made these remarks Wednesday while accompanying Kiambu County Commissioner Mr. Wilson Wanyanga in his address on the National Hygiene Programme dubbed “Kazi Mtaani” at a function held outside his office.
The director noted that those who wished to benefit from Uwezo funds were required to apply early as it took some time before the funds were released. “The forms can be found from all the NG-CDF offices in all the sub-counties,” Migwi said.
She however noted that more women were placing in their applications compared to the youth who should be more aggressive. Youth have the energy, skills and time to work in any given docket and they should not shy away from applying for the funds, she noted.
Migwi clarified that even though the government was putting in place measures to put more money in people’s pockets, it could not just go from house to house distributing money to people without them expressing interest in being considered.
“One must express an interest, allow the relevant office to vet the applicants and then list down the beneficiaries so that they can now be given the money and payment procedures put in place,” she explained.
The director challenged the youth to come out of their comfort zones and be ready and willing to work so that they could be relied on to take care of their families and parents who sacrificed their resources to give them a decent life.
The ongoing Kazi Mtaani programme has benefitted 2,300 youth in Kiambu County and more will benefit in the 2nd phase where youth from the 13 sub-counties of Kiambu will be involved.
