Youth and women from the outskirts of Narok town have gained valuable skills in starting and managing small businesses in a training programme organized by a non-governmental organization.
The one-day workshop brought together 300 participants, equipping them with practical knowledge on entrepreneurship tailored to local economic opportunities.
Speaking to the press after the training, Eunice Mburu, the Executive Director of the organization, emphasized the significance of empowering young people with an entrepreneurial mindset.
“Our focus is on youth who show strong business potential and can align their enterprises with the unique environmental and economic conditions of Narok. By nurturing their ideas, we aim to create sustainable livelihoods and reduce dependency on formal employment,” said Mburu.
Participants explored various income-generating sectors, including agriculture, livestock farming, tourism, and innovation.
Sylvia Rise, a participant, expressed her optimism about the training’s impact. “This session has opened my eyes to opportunities I hadn’t considered before. I now have a clearer plan on how to start a small agribusiness using the resources around me,” she shared.
Elvis Ole Kiseiya, another participant, highlighted the relevance of the training in addressing local challenges.
“The knowledge we have gained today is practical and applicable. In a place like Narok, where tourism and agriculture are thriving, having the right business approach can make a huge difference,” he said.
Ruiginah Kaimuri also praised the initiative, noting how it fosters collaboration among young entrepreneurs.
“It’s not just about starting a business-it’s about networking, learning from others, and finding innovative ways to grow. This training has given us the confidence to take the next step,” she said.
With economic opportunities expanding in Narok County, such capacity-building programmes are expected to play a crucial role in fostering self-reliance and entrepreneurship among the youth and women in the region.
