Wote Municipality plans to set a Waste Management Policy, aimed at creating a safer and cleaner environment in the community.
The municipal Manager Evelyn Mutua has said they are committed to develop a comprehensive solid waste management policy that will focus on collection, transport and disposal of waste.
Mutua further explained that the policy seeks to address the increasing waste problem that accrues from the mixture of organic and inorganic waste, scattered around the market that creates a health and environmental hazard.
“The main problem in Wote Municipality is the volume of waste generated daily. We handle about 20 tonnes of waste every day and we lack a proper structure of collection and disposal,” said the manager at Green Park in Wote town during a public participation forum.
“This policy will ensure the residents are aware of how to separate organic from inorganic waste and know where to dispose accordingly,” she added.
