The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has prepared well for the World Peace Day celebrations to be celebrated in West Pokot this Saturday.
Speaking at a preparatory event for the Rev. Church. Murpus in the Kapenguria area, Deputy Director in the commission, Gillian Nyambo, has said that they are prepared to celebrate the day that the whole world has planned to set aside fifty days to ensure peace is found.
Mr. Gillian made it clear that the Kenyan Nation has made ambitious decisions to appoint the West Pokot branch to run this celebration.
“We as a nation have decided that this great day of peace can be celebrated nationally in the West Pokot district,” Nyambo reiterated.
He emphasised the reasons that led to this day being held in this district, saying many people in this county and neighbouring counties have faced difficult circumstances, including conflicts and wars that have contributed to the lack of peace and harmony.
In addition, he said that they are celebrating this day to get rid of opium, which many have maintained is a sign of war and violence since tradition.
“Another reason that makes us celebrate the day of peace in this county is to change the attitude or thinking that this area is not safe,” said Nyambo.
He also said that in all the forty-seven counties, the West Pokot division is among the few counties that have adopted a policy on peace.
“And for that reason we say Mgalla kills him and gives him justice, and Chanda Chema always wears a ring. So the West Pokot county should wear a ring,” pleaded Nyambo.
He explained that West Pokot County is a beautiful county that has clean air and called on them to come out to celebrate the important day of Peace while encouraging the pilgrims to uphold the call.
However, he urged various leaders at the county and national levels to invest in Kerio areas, saying that this area for a long time has experienced challenges, especially in terms of infrastructure, schools, hospitals, and many other institutions that they need.
“If we want to develop peace that will last in this part, let’s start by building a school in this part so that children in these parts have the chance to go to school,” said Nyambo.
Moses Long’iro, Chairman of the Anglican Church in West Pokot Gatuzi, called on the County government and all peace stakeholders to cooperate in working together with the leaders of the churches in the county.
For his part, Immamu Abdulkarim, a minister in the Muslim sect, said that they have been able to meet with the aim of ensuring that the people of this county live in peace while denying the negative attributes that are spreading that there is no security in this area.
“I want to tell you that if anyone was unaware, West Pokot County is a peaceful city and a city that has benefitted many,” said Nyambo.
In addition, he has encouraged various organisations to dedicate themselves to celebrating the great day of peace, and he thanked the Harmony and Integration Commission for its commitment to ensure that the residents of this county find peace and recognise that this county is a county of Unique Resources.
