Women urged to seek leadership positions

Women leaders from Inua mama jenga taifa programme have called upon their fellow women to come out and seize leadership positions in the country to have enough women representation in various spheres.

The women leaders decried the low representation of women in legislative and other positions as compared to other countries in East Africa and urged Narok residents to rally behind Narok County MP Soipan Kudate who has declared interests in the gubernatorial position come 2022.

Speaking during the Inua mama event held at Ole-Ntimama Narok stadium, Narok during an Inua mama jenga taifa event yesterday, Ms Kudate said that for a long time, women in the country have been relegated to the periphery only being given what has been considered to be minor or supporting roles yet they have the capabilities to lead in any position and bring development.

“Our place is not under the table as was the tradition, but it is our time to reclaim our place in the society and get our share of the cake in leadership as mandated by the constitution,” she added.

Kudate further stated that she is the only woman in Narok county who has been voted in directly which is disappointing and urged Narok women particularly Members of County Assembly  to take charge by striving to take up other top posts in the ladder.

Chairperson of inua mama jenga Taifa women group Alice Muthoni Wahome  who is also the Kanndara MP explained that the group entails women leaders in leadership who conduct a merry go-round in the grassroots to empower growth in women and youths by launching projects that help uplift them.

We need to be given a chance in leadership because we have been behind support teams of every political leadership in this country and now it was time for change as women,” she said

The women led by Naivasha town  member of parliament(MP)  Jane Kihara criticized those proposing the removal of the position of the women representative saying they should instead add more women`s positions because they are trying to achieve the two thirds gender rule.
