Some 75 women traders and farmers from Siaya County have been sensitized on the use of information technology to facilitate businesses.
They were given practical sensitization for one week, from a collaboration of SAUTI EAST AFRICA, a software company, and Agricultural Sector Support Development Programme Phase II (ASDSP II), Siaya County branch.
The women were sensitized on the use of Short Messaging Services (SMS) and mobile phone Applications to access and exchange trade and market information.
During the closing of the workshop at a Siaya town hotel, Ms Sylvia Munai, Program Manager at SAUTI, said the women were expected to share the information with groups and individuals in their home sub-locations.
She said the information would empower women to bargain for better prices, get goods at the cheapest prices, sell at the highest rates, and find new markets for their products or services.
Siaya ASDSP II Coordinator Mr Ken Owuor, said his organization was cognizant of the low use of information technology by women traders in the area hence, the collaboration with SAUTI to help bridge the gap.
To access free of charge information on market prices, currency exchange rates, countries border situation, weather forecasts and Covid 19 updates one should dial *176# and WhatsApp (+254 20 389 3576), the participants were told.
