Kisii Gubernatorial aspirant Rachael Otundo has appealed to media practitioners in Kisii and Nyamira counties to support female politicians by giving them ample media coverage.
Speaking to the press during the World Press Freedom Day celebrations held at a Kisii hotel in Kisii Town, Ms Otundo said that there are more upcoming women leaders in Kisii and Nyamira counties and urged the media to collaborate with these women leaders to promote their aspirations.
“I am asking women leaders to fight for political spaces in the country. Let us not limit ourselves to the position of women representative,” said Otundo.
The gubernatorial aspirant urged women leaders to be available when needed by journalists to give information adding that media is a powerful tool for empowering the public.
Otundo noted that the media is well-informed and requested for media protection due to the risks involved in covering stories.
She asked the national and county governments to ensure that Bonchari Constituency by-elections that is slated for May 18 is conducted in a transparent and peaceful manner.
