At least 200 families from vulnerable households have received donations of foodstuffs, clothing, and cash from the office of the Woman Representative in Kisii County.
Speaking during the launch of Donya Charity Mission, Kisii Woman Rep, Donya Aburi said the initiative aims to support vulnerable community members with basic needs.
“When you look at Kisii County, so many people are facing challenges such as jiggers infestation brought by unhygienic practices and poverty which continues to remain high. This initiative will educate the community on the best practices to address these challenges,” Aburi said.
The Woman Rep encouraged community members to join hands and continuously support vulnerable households adding that she will look for additional donations of computers and wheelchairs in the near future.
Kisii County Governor’s wife May Arati said she was committed to working with the office of the Woman Rep to address the needs of vulnerable people within Kisii.
She noted the Governor is equally running the Simba Arati Foundation which has since launched an anti-jigger campaign to tackle the jigger cases within the county.
“Additionally, we are planning to introduce education support for all vulnerable children for our county,” Mrs Arati added.
National Bank of Kenya, Kisii Branch Manager, Amon Maikara pledged to continue supporting the initiative as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs.
Maikara lauded the Woman Rep for kicking off the initiative adding that it is very rare for new leaders who have just come into the office to set up a noble function aimed at assisting the community.
