A 20- year old woman at Keikunyuk in Turkana South Sub County was raped by highway robbers early Friday morning.
The Turkana South Deputy County Commissioner (CC), Geoffrey Tanui said the woman was traveling from Lodwar to Kitale in a Bliss sacco vehicle when they were attacked at around 1 am.
The criminals forced passengers to disembark from the vehicle, robbed them and then raped the woman.
According to Tanui, the highway robbers also made away with valuables of unknown value belonging to the passengers.
“Police are still pursuing the robbers and we are hopeful they will be apprehended,” said Tanui.
He described the incident as an isolated case and assured passengers of their safety as they travel ahead of the festive season.
The Lodwar – Kitale road has been enjoying calm over the last few months.
