Woman names twins after President elect

A mother in Kericho County has named her new-born twins after the newly declared President elect, Dr. William Ruto and his wife First Lady elect Rachel Ruto.

Brenda Chepkorir, 22, a resident of Roret village in Bureti Sub-County within Kericho gave birth to a boy and a girl at the Kericho County Referral Hospital on 10 August, just hours after casting her vote on 9 August at Reresik Primary School.

In an interview with KNA at the medical facility, an elated Chepkorir said she decided to name her first children shortly after giving birth to them, to commemorate the just concluded General Elections.

“On 9 August, I went and cast my vote at Reresik Primary School within Bureti Sub-County and immediately afterwards on reaching my home I started experiencing labor pains and my family rushed me to Kericho County Referral Hospital where I gave birth to my twins via caesarian section at around 2pm. Both my babies are in a very stable condition and at peace just like the prevailing peace in the country. I am happy that Kenyans exercised peace during the elections, so I decided to call my twins after the newly elected President, Dr. William Ruto and his wife Rachel Ruto because he is a leader who loves peace,” said Chepkorir.

Incidents of Kenyans naming children born during epic meetings are not uncommon in Kenya.

In 2015 when former President of the United States of America (USA), Barack Obama, visited the country some mothers named their new born male babies after him.

Kenyans went to the polls on 9 August 2022 to elect their preferred leaders, including the President, Governors, Senators, Members of the National Assembly, Women Representatives as well as ward representatives.
