A woman died on the spot as two other people sustained serious injuries when a vehicle rammed into another from the rear on Thursday morning along Wote-Makindu road.
The injured passengers, who suffered broken limbs, were rushed to Makueni Level 4 Hospital where they are recuperating.
The Makueni County Police Commander (CPC), Joseph Ole Napeiyan confirmed the 6.30am accident that occurred near Kathozweni market when a Manatwa Sacco minibus was hit from the rear by Namak minibus travelling in the same direction.
“The vehicles were speeding and competing to pick passengers by the road side when the accident occurred,” Napeiyan told Kenya News Agency in his Wote town office.
The CPC said the two drivers had been arrested and were being held at the Makueni Police station awaiting to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
The body of the deceased was taken to the Makueni level 4 referral mortuary for preservation awaiting post-mortem.
