A middle-age woman who was reported to have been abducted with her baby on fool’s day at a supermarket has confessed to self-abduction.
Jane Wanjiku Muthoni aged 37 years old disappeared on Thursday 1, April 2021 together with her daughter Lynn Muthoni Ngige, shortly after leaving Clean Shelf Supermarket within Kiambu town where she had gone to do some shopping with her house help.
She was later reported to have been found after she walked herself to Kimende Police post on Monday April 5, 2021 where she reported to have been dumped in a drainage trench along the road in Kimende, Lari Sub County by her kidnappers.
Speaking to KNA from his office the Directorate of Criminal Investigation officer (DCIO) Kiambu Dennis Wekesa, confirmed that the woman had been found and that they called her in for interrogation on Friday 9 April, 2021.
The DCIO disclosed to us that the woman confessed self-abduction after they confronted her with a CCTV footage sent to them by Interpol, showing Wanjiku dropping her daughter at Christ the King Church in Kampala.
The Baby Lynn Muthoni was found by a church member as she went to worship in the church and she was later taken to Luwero children’s home in Kampala, Uganda.
She narrated to police that she left the supermarket carrying her baby in the pretense of going to answer to a nature call, she then gave her house help some money to pay for the shopping and left.
Wanjiku then left with her baby for Kampala, Uganda the same day, she claims that it was her first time to travel to Uganda, and she had planned to leave her baby at church as she believes she would be safe in church.
Fearing to be discovered she boarded the next bus back to Nairobi on Saturday April 3, 2021, she then presented herself to Kimende Police Station on Monday 5, April 2021 and pretended to have been dumped by her abductors
According to the DCIO the couple have two children a 10 year old and Lynn the youngest and they also confessed to be having a strained relationship brought about by doubt of paternity of baby Lynn Muthoni.
Desperate to save her marriage the woman considered to do away with the baby after she had attempted suicide and was not successful.
Through a phone call interview with KNA, her husband Mr John Ngige Kinyanjui said his wife was in good shape and did not have any medical problems following the ordeal.
He also explained that he has positively identified their 1 year old daughter Lynn from a photo sent to them from a children’s home in Kampala, Uganda.
The DCIO added that baby is yet to be brought back to the country, and the woman has long been released to her family by the police for medical examination before she can be booked for a court hearing on the case.
