West Mugirango MP issues lockers and chairs to JSS learners

West Mugirango Member of Parliament, Stephen Mogaka has issued 1260 lockers and chair to 13 Juniour Secondary Schools (JSS) in his constituency.

During the disbursement ceremony outside the constituency’s offices, the MP observed that the grade nine candidates were supposed to transit to secondary school in the previous education syllabus and they therefore need to be placed in the same status though they will be learning from primary school institutions.

“These desks and lockers will be placed in the newly built classrooms for the grade nine students so that their esteem will be boosted and their learning be conducive. Their status as JSS students must by all means portray them that way.” He said.

The legislator further said that he is working round the clock to ensure that all the primary institutions with JSS students will have new and spacious classrooms where the desks and lockers will be placed to ensure they can accommodate all the students in the JSS section.

“We started with construction of JSS classrooms during the holiday and the learners are now set to learn from the newly constructed classrooms. Disbursing of these desks and chairs will make the classrooms complete with correct learning standards.” MP Mogaka commented.

He hinted that he is very keen in raising the education standards of West Mugirango constituency so that they lead in performance not just in this region but also at the national levels noting the education is the equalizer of everyone irrespective of your background because it will take people places so long they purpose to put their best for forth in their studies.

The constituency Kenya Primary Schools Headteachers Association (KEPSHA) chair, James Osindi who is also the head teacher for Mobamba DOK primary school thanked the MP for his wise decision of not just building the JSS classrooms but also ensuring they are equipped to make them ready for learning.

“The learning environment for our learners has been greatly improved and our learners are very excited and eager to learn from their brand new and fully equipped classrooms a gesture which are really made them feel that they are secondary school students.” Mr. Osindi said.

Schools with the JSS section will receive at least 45 lockers and 45 desks with an exception of few whose enrolment of JSS learners is very high like Tente COG primary school which will receive 90 lockers and chairs to comfortably accommodate their huge enrollment of learners.

Ms. Lydia Ong’ondo, KEPSHA who was also present during the disbursement of the chairs and lockers urged the school managers to emphasize on good care of these lockers and chairs so that they can be used in future by learners who will be joining JSS in subsequent years and also urged the schools to ensure they are secure and none gets its way out of school because it will greatly jeopardize normal learning in the affected schools.

“An adequately facilitated classroom makes the learning and teaching experience enjoyable and motivates students to record good performance, the school facilities, equipment including their infrastructure should therefore be well maintained all the time and be jealously secured to ensure they efficiently serve their purpose in our learning and teaching institutions.” Ms. Ongondo advised.
