West Mugirango constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Stephen Mogaka has disbursed funds to students in secondary schools and tertiary institutions worth Sh44,900,000.
The MP stated that he highly cherishes education, therefore he allocates the lion’s share of his Constituency Development Funds (CDF) to education because it is a global equalizer to any student from his constituency who wants to make a difference in his or her life and the community as well.
“Students are spoilt for choice on what they can become as they advance in their education journey so long, they remain focused, work hard and ensure they utilize the assistance they have received in form of bursary as required.
“Work hard to ensure you excel in your exams to secure coveted career courses during university placement. Those who have benefitted from this bursary have no excuse for being absent from school, consult teachers who are ready to assist all the time and ensure to maintain a high level of discipline.” advised the MP.
MP Mogaka challenged parents whose children had benefited from the bursary to ensure they provide all other personal necessitates for smooth learning of their children. They should counsel their children to remain disciplined always, adhering to school rules and regulations to make their school experience punishment free and enjoyable.
He thanked the education committee for their sacrifice to do the rigorous vetting exercise of awarding qualifying students to benefit from this bursary.
“Secondary schools will receive a total of Sh 24,900,000 and a total of Sh.20 million will be disbursed to students in universities and middle level colleges. My office received a total of 8000 applications from secondary school students and 4000 applications from those university and tertiary institutions which were all awarded.
“I am the chairperson of the CDF audit committee in parliament and would not tolerate any corrupt deals on this kitty or any other CDF funds. I request school principals who will receive these cheques to issue receipts to every student and not a single receipt which raises eyebrows and audit queries.
He hinted that they equally received forged application forms which were quickly noticed and presented to relevant authorities at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nyamira to ascertain the authenticity of those applications.
“If they are legit, they will definitely be considered for bursary but if not, they will bear the brunt of the rule of law alone”, he quipped.
The legislator congratulated the class of 2024 Kebirigo Boys High school students for recording excellent KCSE results, the reason they were being celebrated and awarded. He challenged this year’s form fours to ensure they exceed last year’s mean score of 8.886.
Clement Nyang’acha, the Chief Principal, Kebirigo Boys high school thanked the area MP for his kind gesture to support needy and vulnerable students from his constituency enrolled in his school to enable them concentrate in their studies and be fully in school to curb absenteeism which affects good performance.
“We are working round the clock with all the school stakeholders to ensure that our students get full attention to finish the syllabus in good time and start thorough revision so that we work to surpass last year’s mean score.” promised the Chief Principal.
