Hundreds of elderly women, widows, and single mothers from Ng’ong’i village in Kithimu Ward, Embu County, have been treated to a luncheon to celebrate Christmas by a well-wisher from the area.
The beneficiaries congregated at the home of Eunice Gicuku Kinyua, who treated them to meals, drinks, and entertainment.
This has been the tradition for Gicuku’s family for the last two decades in the spirit of giving and sharing; she says it is hinged on the love of God, who gave his only begotten son for the salvation of humanity.
She said she treats vulnerable persons in her locality not because she has a lot, but out of love and care for the less fortunate.
“I feel obligated to touch the lives of the needy during this season before I embark on treating my family,” Gicuku said.
She said this year she decided to incorporate young single mothers so that she can inculcate the culture of sharing and giving in them.
“I want them to learn from my example so that they can continue touching the lives of fellow residents and especially the less fortunate through giving,” she said.
Gicuku challenged those who have something to spare to always share with the needy around them during this season of festivities to lift their spirits.
“Let us learn to give, as no one is too poor to give or too rich to receive; what matters is the willingness to do good,” she said.
