A section of Embu County leaders has maintained they are in the Government to stay despite the growing discontent from majority of residents who deem the UDA administration as oppressive.
The dissatisfaction has led to a growing culture of intolerance against leaders following heckling that took place at a presidential function three months ago.
The leaders said they will not bow to pressure to ditch the Government they supported wholeheartedly and voted to man as a county.
Led by Governor Cecily Mbarire, the leaders said it was incumbent upon the county to rally behind the Government so that they draw maximum benefits in terms of development projects.
“We must hang on to see to it that the promises that this administration gave to us during the campaigns have come to fruition,” the Governor said.
Speaking on Thursday when she graced a groundbreaking ceremony of construction of a business complex in Embu Town by ACK Diocese of Embu, Governor Mbarire said nothing good can come from the opposition where residents are pushing them towards.
“Lets us not deceive ourselves, the major roads and mega irrigation dams we desperately need to be constructed can only be done by the government with the goodwill from the President,” she said.
She lamented that the county had been sidelined in the former regimes in terms of development and there was need to support the current administration which had demonstrated willingness and commitment to grow it.
Her sentiments were echoed by Senator Alexander Mundigi who called for tolerance from locals, saying the future looks bright for the county.
They also took issue with sentiments made by Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama calling for isolation of Mt. Kenya Region in light of growing dissent.
Wanyama asked the president while on a development tour of Western Region to shift focus to the area to increase his chances of re-election as Mt. Kenya had turned unstable for him politically.
However, Mundigi said the remarks were unfortunate and meant to alienate the region from the rest of the county contrary to constitutional values of national unity and cohesion.
ACK Diocese of Embu head Bishop David Muriithi called on Kenyans to maintain peace and not allow the country to sink into disarray on the altar of politics.
