Five people were reported dead after two group of herders clashed over watering point in Qarsa in Kinna ward of Isiolo County.
The two groups who were heavily armed from Isiolo and Garissa clashed where eight others were left nursing bullet wounds at Isiolo County Referral Hospital.
The morning attack occurred when Somalis community from Garissa County had refused to give water to locals who moved to the area recently.
Isiolo Women Representative Rehema Jaldesa, Isiolo North MP Hassan Odha and Kinna Ward Member of County Assembly Isack Fayo further said that among eight injured who were admitted to Isiolo Hospital, three were referred to Meru hospital for specialised treatment due to seriousness of injures.
Speaking to KNA today at Isiolo Hospital level, Fayo said that the conflict between Somali from Garissa and Borana is not over water and pasture but purely on land where they want to evict locals from their grazing and manyattas.
The leaders blamed the government for siding with Somali community who are forcefully removing locals out of their land by extending the boundary illegally using heavy military weapons.
They added that Somali community is using senior national and county government officials in grabbing the land forcefully to evict locals by killing them and not taking animals.
The MCA said four chiefs were illegally employed based in Isiolo from Garissa County but answerable to Regional Commissioner in north eastern region.
When contacted, Isiolo County Commissioner Herman Shambi said that two herders from Isiolo lost life in the fight and eight others injured.
He added that three other from neighbouring county also died and a team of security officers were patrolling in the area.
Shambi further said that poor road network delayed information but security acted on time and the situation is now normalized.
Three days ago the chairman of Garre community Hajj Abdi Mzungu was shot dead in the same area while looking for pasture for his livestock.
