A watchman was brutally murdered by unknown assailants at Kibuye market in Kisumu County Wednesday morning.
The body of Samuel Kachi Manyasi (55) which had a deep wound on the head was discovered at 4.45am in front of the business premises he was guarding.
Kisumu OCPD, Ancent Kaloki said nothing was stolen from the deceased whose documents were found intact while the business premise was also not broken into.
Kaloki said the police are treating the incident as a robbery and already the DCIO Kondele has commenced investigations into the matter.
“We want to establish the motive behind the brutal murder and hope to clear speculations currently going round over the incident,” he explained.
Kaloki disclosed that the deceased was hit on the head while sleeping, a pointer to the fact that Manyasi was the target since there was no confrontation at the scene of crime.
The OCPD was reacting to speculation that Manyasi could have been murdered after he allegedly eloped with another person’s wife.
However, he said this formed the basis of the investigations and so it was premature to start disclosing details when the officers were still combing the ground for further information on the brutal murder.
On another speculation that a pregnant woman was brutally murdered, her womb slit open and the foetus removed, Kaloki said nothing has so far come out of the investigations.
He confirmed that word spread like bushfire over the alleged killing with claims that the woman’s body and the foetus was abandoned at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching & Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) morgue.
The OCPD said they were also trying to find out the source of what appears to be a malicious claim considering that nothing has so far come out of the investigations even though the OCS Kondele was still combing JOOTRH mortuary.
