The Malindi Resident Judge, Weldon Korrir on Wednesday issued a warrant of arrest for two police officers suspected to have killed a youth in Kaloleni of Kilifi County after an application by the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The two police officers from Mariakani police station in Kilifi County are expected to appear before Malindi law courts on February 12, 2019 to take plea against murder charges.
Babra Zombo, prosecution counsel moved the court to issue the warrant against Simeon Oyoo Ayodo and Amos Kiptoo Kipsang who are accused of killing the youth.
“A warrant of arrest has been issued against the accused persons as prayed, mention will be on 12th February 2019 to confirm compliance,” read Judge Korir’s order.
They are accused that on June 26, 2018 at Tsangatsini in Kaloleni Sub County within Kilifi County, they murdered Katana Kazungu.
The prosecution moved to the Malindi High Court after the Mombasa High Court said that the matter should be filed at the Malindi High Court.
In her statement, Ms. Babra said, “we pray for a warrant of arrests against Simeon Oyoo Ayodo and Amos Kiptoo Kipsang who are police officers attached at the Mariakani police station so that they can be brought to court to answer the charges and the Kilifi County Criminal Investigation Officer to execute the arrest warrants.”
The DPP had written to the court requesting for the arrest of the officers over the murder of Katana Kazungu at Tsangatsini area in Kaloleni Sub County.
