Wamatangi launches Kiambu Champions Cup Football Tournament

Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has launched the Kiambu Champions Cup Football Tournament which will be running annually.

The launch marked the end of the County wide team’s registration exercise which ran for a month and ended on September 2023.

According to Wamatangi, the aim is to create more job opportunities through sports and also strengthen the sports sector.

“We are glad to announce that we have so far registered over 600 teams from all the 60 wards in Kiambu county and all of them are represented here today” said Wamatangi

The Governor added that the program reflects on his inspirational purpose to develop the sports industry, increase employment opportunities in the sports industry, and give young people a stable path to careers in football.

“To ensure the tournament’s success and sustainability for sports development, my administration is refurbishing several stadiums and playing fields throughout the County” he stated

The governor pointed that to motivate and encourage talents, the winners of Kiambu Champions Cup Football Tournament will receive price stakes as follows; the winning team will receive Sh 500,000, second place will receive Sh 250,000, third place will receive Sh 100,00 while the team on the fourth place will receive Sh 50,000 respectively.

The County Executive Committee Member for Youth Affairs, Sports and Communication Osman Korar who was also present at the event encouraged all the teams to demonstrate hard work and determination in the tournaments to ensure excellent performance

“I encourage all the participants to take this seriously for it is a great platform for football enthusiasts to showcase their talents, which may open doors of better opportunities in the national level and even internationally,” said Osman
