Vulnerable communities in Kiambu County are set to receive humanitarian supplies from the police and local churches to cushion the needy families from the ravages of harsh economic times.
The families will benefit from the donation courtesy of the local department of police and the Anglican Church of Kenya who have offered food items including maize and wheat flour and other basic items.
Speaking during the occasion, Kiambu County Commander Perminus Kioi said the food will be distributed to the less fortunate members of the society through the church especially in affected areas of Kiambu town Nachu, Ndeiya and Thika East.
“The food items that we have contributed amongst ourselves will be given to the ACK St Peter and Paul Kiambu Churches where the church leaders will take the lead in giving out the food”, he said .
As a police fraternity, Commander Kioi said their duty was to serve the community in times of dire need as it keeps law and order.
Canon Charles Muchene, the ACK bishop urged residents of Kiambu to emulate a similar gesture by helping those in need at this time of Christmas festivities.
“We can be able to reduce poverty by helping one another with whatever we have. The greatest thing we should show to the people in need is to love them and be there for their needs”, he said.
Cannon Muchene thanked the police for entrusting the church in the food distribution to the people saying they will ensure that it is distributed to the needy and give feedback to the commander once done.
Prior to the distribution ceremony, the church leaders led by Cannon Muchene participated in a ground breaking ceremony and blessing of land where a new church will be put up.
