Murang’a County assembly is mourning the death of one of their members who died Friday morning hours.
The late Gaturi ward representative in Kiharu constituency, Cyrus Kiiru Mwangi died while receiving treatment at the M.P Shah Hospital in Nairobi after battling a liver disease for several months.
The assembly speaker Nduati Kariuki eulogized Mwangi as a seasoned debater on matters of the law and public interest.
“The County Assembly has lost a great mind who represented the people of his ward with boundless dedication and commitment.
On behalf of the Members and Staff of the County Assembly and on my own behalf, I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to the widow, children and family of the deceased,” said Nduati in his message of condolence sent to the press.
Mwangi was a vocal leader who was known to castigate the performance of the executive arm of the county government. His criticism of the county government saw him being removed as chair of the assembly’s committee of finance and economic planning.

On his part, Governor Mwangi wa Iria said he learnt of the death of the Gaturi MCA with great sadness.
Mwangi termed the MCA as a dedicated leader who advocated for transparency and effective service delivery to Wanjiku.
“My heartfelt condolences to Kiiru’s family, the County Assembly and the Gaturi Ward constituents. The County Government of Murang’a condoles with the family and will offer necessary support towards offering Kiiru a befitting send-off,” stated Mwangi.
Murang’a County Women Representative Sabina Chege eulogized Kiiru as a person who was passionate, jovial and intelligent and served his people with humility.
“Having interacted with him in different development projects and services to the people of Gaturi, we can confidently say Murang’a County Assembly has lost one of its best brains.
“My condolences to the bereaved family, great people of Gaturi ward and the entire Murang’a County Assembly fraternity during this hard moment,” added Chege.
