The County government of Vihiga in collaboration with the Kenya Academy of Sports (KAS) intends to set up a county sports academy to nurture talents among residents.
The Academy’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Doreen Odhiambo, said they are soon going to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) so as to pave the way for the implementation of the project.
She said the sports academy would enable the county to produce professional sportsmen and women who would be able to join the local and international clubs to earn a living.
Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo, who hosted the KAS delegation at his office, stated that they have enacted the sports Act that has enabled them to establish a sports Fund aimed at supporting sporting activities.
The county head said his administration is keen on promoting sports and they want to embark on putting the necessary infrastructure in place.
He pointed out that they are sending teams from the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) centres to participate in the national drama and film festival scheduled for 20th, to 30th, April 2023, at Shimo La Tewa high school in Mombasa County.
