Vihiga County to Pay Community Health Workers

Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo says a bill has been drafted to pave way for employment of Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) in a bid to boost health services in the County.

Dr. Ottichilo stated that the bill is currently in the County Assembly and once passed CHVs will be referred to as the Community Health Workers (CHW).

The governor said this while opening a new maternity wing at Mulele Dispensary in Lugaga-Wamuluma ward.

“We intend to put the CHWs on the payroll so as to boost their morale and thereby improve the health services delivery,” he observed.

He said the paramedics are crucial in the health sector and promised to ensure they are well facilitated to enable them execute the services effectively.

The governor added that the new facility would go a long way in ensuring expectant mothers receive appropriate maternity care.

Dr. Ottichilo said his administration has prioritized the health sector by expanding infrastructure, employing more personnel as well as availing medicines.
