The county government of Vihiga has received 305 liquid oxygen cylinders that will be distributed to selected health facilities.
The consignment consists of 200 fifty-litre, 75 twenty-litre and 30 ten-litre containers which are part of 20, 620 recently supplied by the national government to the Council of Governors (CoG).
Speaking while receiving the consignment, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health Services Dr. Nicholas Mwandihi said the oxygen supply will be of help to the critically ill patients.
Dr. Mwandihi stated that the County Referral Hospital (CRH), Emuhaya sub county hospital, Mbale Rural health training centre, Hamisi sub county hospital, Bugina and Emusire health centres would each receive 30 cylinders.
“The remainder will be kept in the central store at the CRH to be given out on demand,” he explained.
The CECM added that they intend to revive the oxygen plant at the CRH so that they produce the commodity in large quantity in order to serve the patients adequately.
Most of the devolved units put in place oxygen plants at the peak of the covid-19 in the year 2021.
The first case of the disease, which originated in Wuhan province of China in December 2019, was reported in Kenya in March 2020.
