Vihiga County Government has embarked on improvement of markets within the municipality.
The exercise will see the sidewalks in Chavakali, Majengo and Mudete trading centres covered with paving blocks to enable traders have a conducive environment for doing business.
Governor Dr Wilber Ottichilo, speaking while launching the programme at Majengo township, said the works would also include fixing the sewerage and drainage systems as well as improving the water supply.
Dr Ottichilo stated that the action was prompted by the need for promoting micro enterprises which are sources of income for the youth and women.
“Laying of the paving blocks on the markets will ensure there is no mud during the rains and no dust during dry weather,” he said, adding that garbage bins would also be availed.
The county boss encouraged the traders to apply for credit from the government’s Affirmative Action Funds including the Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF) and the Women Enterprise Fund (WEF) to boost their stocks.
He said his administration is keen on putting in place measures for fostering the business activities for the residents.
