About 287 households affected by floods in Maua Town Igembe South Sub-County of Meru county have received aid from the Red Cross Society.
The victims whose properties of unknown value were destroyed by floods benefited from kitchen utensils, beddings, bar soaps, mosquito nets, jerricans, tents and water disinfectants to treat water before drinking to prevent water borne diseases.
Speaking during the event at Igembe South Sub-County public works ground, the Head of Red Cross Society in Central Region Malcom Kanyoko said that the items given will alleviate suffering of individuals affected by floods.
“The floods victims have been displaced and their properties destroyed and therefore the Red Cross Society has given donation that include utensils and tents to ensure the livelihood of displaced individuals continues,” he said.
Kanyoko further urged individuals still living in flood prone areas to evacuate.
Hellen Kinya a resident of Iriene in Maua Town thanked the Red Cross Society for coming to their aid.
John Kirimi also a resident in Maua Town called upon the governments and well-wishers to intervene and support the affected individuals.
The Maua Location Chief Karen Kagwiria lauded the Red Cross Society for responding to the needs of floods victims and warned residents against going to flooded areas and crossing dilapidated bridges to avoid endangering their lives.
