Following an increase in fire outbreaks during the dry season, residents of Uasin Gishu have been encouraged to utilize the Hotline Numbers for quick action to save human lives.
The Firefighting and rescue section under the department of Roads, Transport and Public Works Uasin Gishu County encourage residents to utilize the emergency numbers: 0710646464, 0532061185, and 0706389888 for quick responses to emergency incidents.
According to the firefighting section officer in charge David Sitati, the team has been responding to more than four fire outbreak incidences daily during this prevailing dry season.
“These cases are avoidable if people became more conscious of fire risks. People tend to assume the importance of having emergency numbers yet you can’t tell when fire can break in your area or premises. I want to encourage every resident to have those numbers for ease of communication with our office for quick response to save properties and lives,” said Sitati.
He said the team was well-equipped and always prepared to respond on time when they get information about such emergencies on time.
In the last week alone, the team responded to fire incidents in different parts including that at the Kaptebei area, Kaptuktuk, Elgeyo Border, Chepkanga, and Simat trading Center, other cases were in Pioneer and Kipkenyo. The worst incident occurred in Chebarus where lives and property were lost due to a delay in communication. Two people died in the fire incident while one is admitted at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, MTRH in critical condition.
