The US Ambassador to Kenya, Kyle McCarter has asked residents of Nandi County to have sober discussions over the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report that was launched last month.
Speaking on Monday when he visited the County to tour projects sponsored by the US Government through USAID, McCarter said it would be prudent that the conversations on how to chat the way forward as a country be given room since it is a means to the unity among Kenyans.
“You do not have to agree with everything but at least give a chance for people’s diverse voices to be heard”, said the envoy.
The Ambassador said his government is keen to see Kenyans embracing peaceful co-existence devoid of violence and should therefore allow sober conversations over the Report.
During his visit he toured the Nandi County Youth Bunge SACCO to see its achievements years after inception.
The SACCO with over 3,700 registered members is supported by the USAID and aims at having the youth lead decent lives and able to shun vices such as drug abuse, violence, and burglary among other forms of crime.
Currently, Youth have been able to access loans to empower themselves economically and own assets to a tune of Sh. 8 million.
McCarter also toured a community library in Kabirisang, Kilibwoni Ward, Emgwen Constituency where he donated books and games kits to learners from the area.
The library is an initiative of the community whereby every household gave out one book to help learners around the area.
Its aim is to reduce the rate of school dropouts and encourage reading culture among children and the community at large. Area MCA, Cynthia Muge, donated 500 books to the community library.
The Ambassador said he was impressed by the initiative, adding that it will help boost the literacy levels in the community and the country at large.
After Nandi, the Ambassador proceeds to Vihiga County and he is set to visit all the 47 counties for familiarization and also tour various ongoing projects.
