The County government of Uasin Gishu has put on notice road contractors who do shoddy jobs and fail to deliver as per tender agreements that they will face severe consequences.
The Department of Roads, Transport and public works said contractors awarded road contracts must ensure they deliver quality work and on time as per the tenders.
The county issued the warning as it continues to intensify monitoring and evaluation exercises for all road construction projects in all the six sub-counties.
The County Director Roads Eng. Benjamin Kirongo asked the contractors to do quality work and to the required standards saying that all county engineers, surveyors, inspectors will be on the ground to closely monitor and ensure proper work is done.
He thanked Uasin Gishu residents as the final users for their partnership in ensuring work is done to their expectations.
He spoke during a final inspection of two projects in racecourse and Kapsaos in Kapseret Constituency.
Uasin Gishu County Assembly Leader of Minority, Ramadhan Ali criticized the national government for delaying release of development funds to the counties which has derailed implementation of projects.
“The tedious procurement process has also contributed in bringing a lot of confusion, we are forced to do rollovers and supplementary budgets year in year out and this has led to delays in ongoing and planned development programmes,” Ramadhan said.
He said the legislative and the executive had agreed to improve on development programmes for the people and they have been trying their best despite the challenges of the national treasury delaying to release funds meant for the projects.
