University closed indefinitely after students’ went on rampage

Lukenya  University, Kibwezi Campus has been closed indefinitely after students went on the rampage on Tuesday night.

The rioting follows blamed the university administration for failing to get a Charter from the government.

Police were called in to flash out the students who had hidden in the nearby thickets after the riot.

Confirming the incident, Kibwezi East Sub County Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD), Ben Chagulo said the students had been ordered by the administration to vacate the campus by Wednesday.

“We are at the Lukenya Campus, students had hidden in the nearby bushes. They are coming out from the bushes and we expect them to be out of the campus by noon,” said.

However, Chagulo said that the students were peaceful and no property was destroyed during the riots.

The university has a total of 1,200 students doing different courses starting from certificates, diplomas and degrees.

Efforts to get comments from the Registrar Academic and Students Affairs, Paul  Mwania  were fruitless as his phone went answered.
