Uasin Gishu County has put proper measures in place to facilitate the construction of the Eldoret 64 Ultra-Modern Market in the Eldoret CBD in order to boost trade in the heart of the upcoming city.
Speaking during the Site clearance exercise to pave way for the construction of the iconic market, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Chelilim who was accompanied by a team of senior county, national government officials and members of business community said the market will boost business operations in the town as it will host several facilities like underground parking, hospital, day care, internet, washing facilities and others.
He called on security agencies to ensure maximum security in the CBD to protect civilian lives and property to ensure business goes on uninterrupted on a 24-hour basis.
The county finalised the design for the construction of an ultra-modern market early this year and had completed collecting views from the general public from across all the six sub counties towards the construction of the iconic market in the CBD.
Chelilim affirmed his administration’s commitment to improving market infrastructure including access roads, street lighting and others across all markets in the municipality of Eldoret.
He urged the business people who come from different ethnic backgrounds to embrace peace noting that peace is an ideal ingredient for a conducive and prosperous business environment.
On his part, the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) Uasin Gishu Chapter Chairperson, Mr Willy Kenei said the new market will be of great help to the business people who he said had suffered a lot after closure of the Champions Retail Market in the CBD one year ago to give room for the modern one.
He mentioned that it will host more than 3000 business spaces and will be of great advantage to farmers as it will provide an available market for their produce.
In his remarks Uasin Gishu County Commissioner, Dr Eddyson Nyale reiterated the commitment of the government through the national security team to ensure maximum security in Eldoret CBD and its outskirts to ensure a calm and peaceful environment for businesses.
