Kisii town is set to benefit from Sh. 800m from the United Kingdom in support for urban upgrading.
The programme is under the Sustainable Urban Economic Development and is funded by the British government through the Department For International Development (DFID).
Addressing the press in Kisii during a public participation for the programme, Kisii Deputy Governor, Joash Maangi, said the programme was for fast growing towns and would take a period of five years to implement.
Maangi said that the funds are geared towards improving infrastructure for both construction and maintenance of roads and value addition for commodities such as soapstone.
Atkins Team Leader, Simon Elliott, said the facelift would enable the town attract both local and international investors.
He vowed to engage with the county leadership and other stakeholders in ensuring successful implantation of the programme.
