Uganda Forces Seal Off Border with Kenya

Trans Nzoia county police commander Ayubu Ali Gitonga has confirmed that security officers from Uganda destroyed three footbridges along Kenya-Uganda border on Thursday in an effort to stop illegal entries in and out of their country.
The county police boss said that the Uganda people defense force (UPDF) demolished Kaboto Bridge in Endebess and two others in West Pokot County along the border.
Ayub observed that the officers cut off the wood making the bridges using power sawing machings to stop movement in and out of the neighbouring countries.
He confirmed that the bridge is among the notorious entry points for contraband goods and illegal entry.
According to the police boss, Kaboto bridge connects Kenya to Bukwo town in Uganda where many Kenyans along the border go for shopping.
He observed that discouraging movement through the bridges will help both countries monitor movement only through the Suam border.
“We had agreed with our Uganda counterparts to ensure citizens from both countries use the Suam border so as to go through screening that has been designated at the suam border,` he said.
He said that Uganda closed its borders after confirming its first case of coronavirus last month adding that 17 Kenyans who crossed to Uganda illegally have been put under quarantine.
