Uasin Gishu County Assembly has adopted a petition declaring the County Executive committee member (CECM) for Health incompetent.
This now puts Evelyn Rotich’s job on the balance as the petition also declared her unfit to hold public office, technically impeaching the CEC.
Following the adoption of the motion, any member of the assembly could move a motion to have the CEC fired through impeachment.
Moving the motion, Dr. Hosea Some said they found the petitioners to be truthful in their claims of mismanagement of staff and irregular acquisitions by the CEC in running her docket.
On April 8, 2019 the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) petitioned the County Assembly seeking the sacking of Ms. Rotich.
The medics through its North Rift branch Secretary-General Ismael Ayabei called for the sacking of the CEC due to incompetence and abuse of office.
Kiplombe Member of County Assembly (MCA) Ramadhan Ali said the health docket takes more than Sh1 billion of the county’s allocation and is critical to the public thus required a competent manager to run it.
The Deputy speaker who presided over the session Hosea Korir said that any member of the house could move a motion following the adoption of the report thus technically impeaching the CECM health.
In May, the CEC found herself on a collision course with the County Assembly after she stopped revolving fund pharmacies.
The County Assembly Committee on Health said the decision by the CEC to close the pharmacies put at risk the lives of over 7, 000 patients in the County who relied on donor-funded subsidized drugs for chronic illness through the community pharmacies.
The health docket has had challenges running to Governor Jackson Mandago’s first term where the then CECs Dr. Eunice Siria and Margret Chepkwony were removed following a myriad of complaints.
