Uasin Gishu ECDEs to get Sh22 million learning materials

The Uasin Gishu County Government, through its Department of Education, has acquired teaching and learning materials worth Sh 22 million for its Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) learners.

In his ‘Nguzo Kumi’ election manifesto, Governor Mr. Jonathan Bii pledged to improve the learning environment for all ECDE learners with a view to improving the quality of education for nursery school pupils to set a good education foundation for them.

Education County Executive Committee Member Ms. Janeth Kosgei, when leading a team of the department’s senior officers, said that the materials have already been received and packaged, ready for distribution to all the ECDE centres next week.

Speaking during the inspection of the learning materials at the Teachers Advisory Centre in Eldoret town, the CECM said the distribution of the learning materials will be a realisation of keeping the promises Governor Bii made.

“We have employed 1287 teachers on permanent and pensionable terms, provided learners with milk twice a week, and now they will get learning materials. All this is geared towards improving the quality of education at our ECDE centres,” the CECM said.

“These materials are of different varieties, all meant to give the pre-primary learners the best foundation in education,” she said, adding that the materials will go a long way in fulfilling the pledge of ensuring equal access to education for all Uasin Gishu learners.

“We have made huge strides compared to what was happening in the past. The learning materials we have procured are in line with the current Competency-Based Curriculum,” she said.

The county has approximately 40,000 pre-primary learners in 687 public ECDE centres. In early June, the county launched a Sh 60 million milk feeding programme that will see all nursery school learners receive milk twice a week.
