Uasin Gishu County identifies 16 isolation and quarantine facilities with 324 beds

With the number of positive Covid-19 cases increasing by the day, the county government of Uasin Gishu has identified eight isolation and eight quarantine health facilities to counter the pandemic.

The  area County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Health, Ms. Everline Rotich said the facilities will accommodate 324 beds.

She  was briefing the county assembly ad hoc Committee on Covid-19 on the county’s preparedness to combat Covid-19 as per the World Health Organization guidelines and President Uhuru Kemyatta’s directives to minimize the spread of the disease on Tuesday.

Ms. Rotich  said two institutions; Kamalel School and Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Eldoret that have 30 and 96-bed capacity respectively are already operational.

The CEC told the committee chaired by Tarakwa MCA, Patrick Bundotich that the other identified isolation facilities are Kiplombe health centre (30 beds), Sambut dispensary and Elgeyo border dispensary with 26 beds each, and Kipsigak dispensary that had 10 beds.

Others are Chepyakwai and Kituiyo health centres with 56 and 50 beds respectively.

The quarantine centers according to the CEC are University of Eldoret, Moi University-School of Medicine, The Eldoret National Polytechnic, Moi Girls Eldoret.

Others include Hill School, AIC Chebisaas girls, Paul Boit Boys High School and Kaplelach.
