Uasin Gishu County conducts training on Social Health Authority

Uasin Gishu County Department of Health Services has in collaboration with the Social Health Authority (SHA), conducted a comprehensive training session for facility in-charges and managers across all health facilities in the county.

The aim of the training was to facilitate smooth transition from the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) to the new SHA framework, which was designed to streamline healthcare delivery and improve service efficiency.

The training session focused on the implementation of ‘e-contracting’ and the effective use of tablets introduced for digital claims processing.

Healthcare providers received essential guidance on how to submit claims electronically through SHA’s Centralized Digital Platform.

The system emphasizes that claims must be submitted within seven days of the date of service or discharge because this timely submission was critical for SHA’s review process and ensures that healthcare providers received prompt payment according to the established tariffs.

The Director of Health Services Dr. Evans Kiprotich highlighted the significance of this transition for both health providers and residents of Uasin Gishu.

“This initiative is vital for ensuring that our health facilities can adapt to the new SHA standards and provide seamless services to our community.  Therefore, I want to call on the residents to register for SHA and take full advantage of the free medical services available under the new system,” said Dr Kiprotich.

The training also included practical demonstrations on using the digital platform, ensuring that all participants felt comfortable navigating the new system.

Key stakeholders involved in the training expressed their commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery in the region by acknowledging that the successful implementation of SHA is contingent upon training and collaboration among all healthcare workers.

The Director of Health Services alluded that as Uasin Gishu County transitions to the SHA framework, the training is a significant step in overcoming challenges associated with the change, aiming to construct a more efficient healthcare delivery model that benefits residents.
