Various health facilities in Uasin Gishu county are set to benefit from 22 state-of-the-art vaccine fridges worth Sh22 million to enhance healthcare service delivery.
The specialized fridges are designed to maintain optimal vaccine storage temperatures for up to eight days without power, ensuring that essential immunizations reach every child, even in the most remote areas.
The fridges donated by UNICEF and the National Vaccines and Immunization Program were flagged off by the partners in conjunction with the Uasin Gishu county government for distribution to health facilities across the county.
The latest donation follows the successful deployment of 51 similar fridges donated and distributed to health facilities across the county last year. The new batch will benefit public and private healthcare facilities as part of the county government’s effort to further expand the reach of vital immunization programs.
Speaking during the flag-off, Health Services County Executive Committee member, CECM, Dr Abraham Serem emphasized the critical importance of immunization in the fight against preventable diseases, particularly among children.
“Immunization is a key pillar in our health strategy and by ensuring that every child receives the full range of vaccines, we aim to eliminate communicable diseases and protect future generations,” said Dr Serem.
The delivery of these fridges is part of the ongoing efforts to implement the governor’s second pillar on his Nguzo Kumi blueprint which aims to improve healthcare accessibility across both urban and rural settings.
Dr. Serem added that through the enhancements of vaccine storage capacity, the initiative ensures that no child was left behind when it comes to receiving life-saving immunization.
In his remarks, Director of Health Services Dr Evans Kiprotich noted that the strategic deliveries were expected to significantly improve the county’s immunization coverage, ensuring that vaccines are safely stored and administered to every child, regardless of location.
“This development underscores the county’s commitment to delivering equitable healthcare services to all its residents,” added Dr. Kiprotich.
The facilities set to benefit include Ngoisa, Kapkoros, Koitoror Dispensaries, St.Monica Karuna, and Palm Care Hospital, among others.
