Sosit and Chemoiben football teams’ face-off in the finals of the Bureti Constituency Development Fund Football Tournament slated for Saturday at Kapkatet Stadium in Bureti Constituency.
The two teams won semis that were staged on Sunday at Tebesonik playing ground to seal their places in the finals of the tourney which is expected to be fireworks, as each team fights to be crowned as the constituency’s champions during the D-day.
The first team to qualify for the finals was Sosit who had proved to be no pushovers after maintaining an impressive run since the start of the tournament a month ago. They humiliated Mabasi, 2-0 in the scintillation semi-finals. The victors’ prolific striker Denis Ng’etich netted all the two important goals for his side.
Efforts by Mabasi to score goals did not bear any fruits as Sosit defenders stood their ground not to let their opponents have a field-day at their goal-mouth during the important match.
Chemoiben also qualified for the finals after beating stubborn Kabitungu, 3-2 through spot-kicks after they settled for a barren draw in the regulation time. During the quarters, Sosit whitewashed Siongi 6-1 at Litein playing ground.
A total of 52 teams from seven Wards in the constituency participated in the slightly month-long tournament whose curtains fall this weekend.
Area MP, Japheth Mutai who was among the spectators during the semis said the tournament was aimed at identifying, developing and nurturing talents among children and youths in the area.
“Apart from identifying and nurturing talents among the children and youths, the tournament was also aimed at dissuading youths from engaging in harmful practices during this festive season,” said Mutai.
The legislator also revealed that the tourney will culminate in forming a constituency team that is set to represent the constituency in the coming football competitions across Kericho County. Both Sosit and Chemoiben are teams from Kapkatet Ward.
