Two teachers committed suicide in separate incidents in Makueni County.
In the first incident, a 34 year old secondary school teacher from Kathamboni primary school committed suicide on Tuesday night.
According to the County Police Commander (CPC), Joseph Ole Naipeyan, the body of Patrick Tindi was found dangling from a tree, a few metres from the school compound at around 7.40 pm.
Ole Naipeyan said the Mathematics and Business Studies teacher had called his brother prior to the suicide and informed him of plans to take his life.
The brother in turn called the school principal who mobilized other teaching staff to look for the deceased only to find his body hanging from a tree in a thicket near the school.
“He had told the brother where they will find the body and by the time they found him, he was already dead,” said the County Police Commander.
The teacher left behind a suicide note thanking his parents and wife with whom they had a son.
He however, stated in the note that he had been struggling since he was posted to the school.
“The teacher said that he had been suffering silently and asked his wife to take care of his son,” said Ole Naipeyan.
An inquiry has been opened for the case.
The body was moved to the Makueni County Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
In the second incident, the body of 47 year old Paul Mumina a teacher at Muusani primary school in Kasikeu was on Wednesday morning found dangling from a mango tree in Enguli village in Nzaui Sub County in what is suspected to be suicide.
The CPC said the deceased did not leave a suicide note and the motive was yet to be established. Police have launched investigations into the incident. Meanwhile, the body was taken to Kilome nursing home pending a postmortem.
The number of suicides in the county has been on the rise. On Monday, the body of a 16 year old class eight pupil from Mbooni West Sub County was found dangling from the roof of his room bringing to three the number of people who have committed suicide to three this week.
