Two rustlers killed and 300 cattle recovered

Security officers on Saturday shot dead two cattle rustlers and recovered over 300 cattle following a raid at grazing area in Lowangishu, in Isiolo County.

Isiolo County Commissioner, Joseph Kanyiri confirmed the death of the two bandits and the recovery of 314 animals that were stolen by about 100 rustlers believed to be from Samburu County.

“The General Service Unit (GSU) officers from the Kipsing camp engaged the bandits in a three- hour gun battle killing the two and ended in recovery of animals,” he added.

He said that some of the attackers escaped with bullet wounds and police have launched a search in dispensaries and nearby hospitals.

Mr. Kanyiri urged the local people and health workers in hospitals, clinics and other health facilities to report any case of any patients seeking treatment with bullet wounds for swift action to be taken and arrest of the suspects.

He said that 12 cattle were shot and died in the fierce exchange of fire between the raiders and police, adding that the recovered animals would be returned to the owners this week.

The County Commissioner lauded security personnel for the swift pursuit of the rustlers which led to the bandits to abandon the animals and flee for their lives.
