Two people died on the spot Saturday evening after the vehicles they were travelling in were involved in a grisly road accident along the Kajiado-Namanga highway.
The crash that occurred at around 6:30 pm at Maili Tisa trading centre involved two lorries and a Probox vehicle.
According to eye-witnesses, the Probox vehicle which was heading to Namanga from Kajiado attempted to overtake a lorry when it rammed into an oncoming truck loaded with timber.
One of the eye-witnesses, Joseph Tianda said the Probox which was at a high speed rammed into an oncoming trailer as it tried to overtake, causing the trailer to hit another lorry.
Kajiado Central Sub-County Police Commander Daudi Loronyokwe while confirming the incident said the Probox hit the front side of the trailer prompting it to veer off the road before landing into a ditch.
“The Probox which was coming from Kajiado to Namanga tried to overtake a lorry, but instead rammed into an incoming truck ferrying timber. One of the passengers in the Probox died on the spot,” he said.
The timber ferrying truck is also said to have hit the other lorry killing its driver on the spot.
The two bodies were taken to the Kajiado Referral Hospital mortuary, while the injured were rushed to the same hospital where they are receiving treatment.
Loronyokwe urged motorists to avoid speeding and exercise extra caution on the roads, especially when overtaking so as to reduce cases of road carnage.
He further called on drivers and passengers to ensure that they wear seat belts as they help save lives in case of mishaps.
