Two people have lost their lives in Eldama Ravine when a quarry they were working on caved in after the heavy rains that pounded the area overnight.
The two were working at the Kapchepsat quarry in Simotwet area when the tragic incident believed to have been caused by the heavy rains occurred at around 3:30 pm.
At the same time, one person who narrowly escaped death is fighting for his life at Eldama Ravine Hospital after he managed to pull out of the debris in time.
Confirming the incident area Sub-County Police Commander Maxwel Agoro said joint efforts by the public and the police paid off as they were able to retrieve the two bodies trapped in the debris.
A wheel loader from the county government came in handy as it helped in removing the debris that had collapsed on the deceased persons.
“The identities of the deceased aged between 28 and 38 years old remains unknown but we are working with the quarry owner to trace their homes and inform the families,” said Mr. Agoro.
Bodies of the deceased were taken to the Eldama Ravine Sub-County hospital mortuary for preservation.
The police boss called on Quarry operators to stop operations on the quarries due to the current heavy rains in the area.
Heavy rains have pounded parts of Baringo for the better part of Sunday night and Monday posing risks of landslides and mudslides.
