Two youths believed to be from the same family perished in a road accident on Kabarnet- Iten road last night.
The two, Mathew Malakwen and Jonah Malakwen 30 and 26 years of age respectively were in a company of two others who survived the accident, namely Gideon Kemboi 27 years and Mathew Kipchumba 33 years of age.
The evening mishap occurred near Kiboino centre in Baringo Central Sub County at 8:30 pm.
According to Kabarnet deputy OCPD Chrispine Ogutu, the four passengers were using a Subaru Impreza car make with registration number KAS 151P during the incident that happened five kilometers from Kabarnet town.
Ogutu confirmed that the driver of the ill-fated Subaru died on the spot while the brother succumbed as he was being admitted at Baringo referral hospital in Kabarnet.
He added that police were informed of the accident by the area chief and as they rushed to the scene they found the lifeless body of the driver still trapped inside the mangled vehicle while the rest were being taken by a Good Samaritan to the Baringo County Referral hospital for treatment.
“The other two were examined and treated at the hospital and have since been released to go home,” he said.
The Kabarnet OCPD said that although investigations have not concluded to ascertain the cause of the accident, they suspect that the driver might have been over speeding before the vehicle lost control and rolled several times along the meandering road.
He cautioned motorists plying the route to be cautious since the road which is hilly and full of meanders has claimed several lives in the recent past.
