Two teams from Laikipia County have qualified for the finals in Nanyuki in the Central region in the youth grassroots football tournament dubbed ‘Chapa Dimba na Safaricom’.
Nyahururu based Falling water girls team easily cruised to the finals that will be played on Sunday after they hammered Karima Queens from Nyeri 12-0 in a one sided match that saw Jane Njeri score four goals ; in the 29th , 31st , 46th and 86th minutes of the opening game played Saturday morning at Nanyuki Stadium.
In the other semifinals, Limuru Starlets silenced Achievers Queens from Ruiru 5-0 where Starlets winger, Damaris Akinyi netted a hat trick. She scored in the 17th, 52nd, and 75 minutes. Ruth Muthoni and Ivy Ofula hit the back of the net in the 36th and 42nd minute of the game respectively.
Starlets will face region’s defending champions Falling Waters in today’s final.
In the boys’ category, Ulinzi Youth from Nanyuki’s Laikipia Airbase will battle it out with JYSA FC from Juja after both teams won in their respective afternoon semifinal clash.
The JYSA FC beat Irigiro Youth FC from Maragua 2-1 in a tough game that saw Irigiro open the score sheet in the 13th minute courtesy of Ouma Pio. The lead was however short lived as JYSA levelled the score in the 21st minute after Dickson Elegae netted the equalizer. Roy Kimoi 84th, minute header saw JYSA cruise to the finals.
Brian Kafero 16th minute low cross saw Ulinzi Youth book a slot in the finals where they will battle it out with JYSA.
Winners of the regional championship will walk away with Sh. 200,000 from the title sponsor Safaricam Limited while the runners up will take home Sh. 100,000 with a host of other individual prizes to be won.
